When I bought this backpack, I wanted a very strong backpack with lots of pockets. The 5.11 Rush 24 fit the bill. Now that I’ve been lugging this around in 80-90 degree temps with 80+ humidity levels, I realize a couple things.
First is how different this is from my other packs and bags. Second is how well laid out the pockets are. Third is what an absolute joy it is to use it.
I’m not sure if it’s the yoke straps that make it so much different, but when I wear it I don’t have the usual back pains and shoulder soreness I do with other bags and packs. I can wear this thing all day, sweat like a pig (I do here anyway) and the backpack doesn’t seem to add to my problems. They pick up some sweat where I’m sweating through my shirt to the straps but the pack sits well on my shoulders and back and stays snug against me even in crowded foot traffic.
If there’s anything I’d improve for travel it’s to have at least the main compartment (if not all) zippers equipped with lockable tabs. That’s asking for something it wasn’t designed for, but that’s me 🙂
As it is, little locks on the cord pulls prevent low level pilfering and I tend to be very alert with regard to situational awareness, especially when traveling.
Bottom line, though is this, in combo with my Tenba bag insert are a fantastic combo for travel.
